11:20 AM -- At least that's what Homer Simpson might say about BCE Inc. (Bell Canada) (NYSE/Toronto: BCE)'s second quarter broadband Internet results.
Mimicking the miserable momentum of its U.S. telco counterparts, Bell Canada lost 1,000 broadband Internet customers in the period, compared to a gain of 29,000 subscribers in the year-ago quarter. (See Gorillas Endangered.)
Canadian cable MSOs fared far better.
Vidéotron Telecom Ltd. added a healthy 23,600 broadband Internet customers in the quarter, compared to 26,000 a year ago. Rogers Communications Inc. (NYSE: RG; Toronto: RCI) trailed with 13,000 broadband Internet additions in the second quarter, down from 21,000 a year ago. Shaw Communications Inc. added 23,815 broadband Internet customers in its latest fiscal quarter, which ended May 31.
