DASAN Lands FTTH Deal in Vietnam

SEOUL, Korea -- DASAN Networks, South Korea’s number one network equipment provider, successfully entered Vietnam’s high-speed Internet market.

Viettel, the largest telecom operator in Vietnam, has selected DASAN Networks as their network equipment supplier to establish the infrastructure in providing high-speed Internet throughout Vietnam.

DASAN Networks made a contract agreement to supply about US$18 Million worth of FTTH GPON systems to Viettel for the next 4 months until November as its first order, and plans to negotiate to supply more FTTH equipment soon.

As a military-run telecommunication company under the Ministry of Defense in Vietnam, Viettel has currently business operations in eight countries including Cambodia, Laos, Mozambique, and Haiti. Viettel is a global company with sales reaching US$7.73 Billion last year.

Starting this year, Viettel plans to offer FTTH based high-speed Internet services all over Vietnam. Biddings in supplying GPON equipment for the project started last year, DASAN Networks was selected as the first supplier among other global telecommunication companies.

CEO Min-Woo Nam says, “SoftBank in Japan, Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, and now adding Viettel in Vietnam as our main customer, we are expecting that our base of annual sales in overseas business will increase significantly,” and that “this contract has helped DASAN to reach one-step closer to our vision in becoming a global network equipment provider.”

As South Korea’s number one network equipment company and main supplier to KT, SK Broadband and LG U+, DASAN Networks has been expanding its global business followed by the company’s success in Japan and Taiwan. With continuous investments in global R&D centers in Vietnam, India and China, and sales offices in Japan, U.S.A. and Taiwan, DASAN is strengthening its global operation and providing its products to 60 customers and partners in 25 countries worldwide.

I am much impressed to see the ambition of getting FTTH *all over* Vietnam. If I correctly recall, much of Vietnam is still rural. Even in many developed countries, FTTH remains a selected locality service exclusive to few large congested cities.
