PARIS -- Broadband World Forum 2010 -- With more than 6,000 attendees, speakers, and exhibitors set to converge here this week, it's time to take a look at some of the potential highlights of the next few days.

We've already detailed the top trends set to be debated in the French capital this week, and highlighted some of the potential logistical issues that visitors might face. (See BBWF 2010: Top 10 Topics and BBWF: What a Riot!)

Here, then, are some tips and hints about speeches, presentations, and announcements that might make the news during the next few days.

Keynotes of choice
Of the 14 planned keynote addresses, the few that stand out for Light Reading are those from former Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) big hitter Mike Quigley, CEO of Australia's NBN Co. (who is part of a keynote panel discussion at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday), and Matt Bross, CTO at Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (9:05 a.m. Tuesday). Both men are passionate, attention-grabbing speakers with potentially, good stories to tell -- Quigley is trying to build a shared national broadband network in Australia, while Bross is embroiled in the quest to get Huawei accepted as a suitable technology supplier for the major networks in the US. We're also keen to find out what Bross has been up to since he joined the Chinese vendor last year. (See Huawei, AT&T, and the NSA and Where's Matty?)

Olivier Baujard, CTO at Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) (10:35 a.m. Tuesday), could also be worth catching, as the former AlcaLu man may have some interesting insights into the potential role of Long Term Evolution (LTE) in an integrated fixed/mobile broadband strategy. (Of course, he might not... but here's hoping!)

There are also many regular conference sessions that could prove interesting (check the official Website for details), including one presentation called "Implementing an NBN: Experience from the Field," which will be given by David Storrie, the CEO of Singapore's Nucleus Connect Pte Ltd. Vendor developments
There will be the usual welter of news announcements from the vendor community, with companies such as Adtran Inc. (Nasdaq: ADTN) and ECI Telecom Ltd. set to unveil new broadband access products.

Highlights include:

Chip vendor Ikanos Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IKAN) is launching NodeScale Vectoring, a chipset based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 's G.vector (Level 3 Dynamic Spectrum Management) standard that can enable DSL downstream speeds of 100 Mbit/s or more. Chinese vendor ZTE Corp. (Shenzhen: 000063; Hong Kong: 0763) has incorporated the technology into its DSLAM, which will be on the show. (See BBWF 2010: Ikanos Boasts 100Mbit/s DSL.)

Nokia Networks 's "sneak preview of its CloudStreet platform that allows operators to trade bandwidth in line with demand, creating a spot market for Carrier Ethernet capacity," while it will also unveil a "new approach to managed transport services," and a way to squeeze more life out copper access plant (one of the key topics of the show). Juniper Networks Inc. (NYSE: JNPR) is lining up what it says will be a key mobile security-related platform announcement that is an extension of Junos Pulse, its "multiservice network client software." (See Juniper Takes Over the Network.)

System-on-chip specialist Sigma Designs Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGM) is unveiling what it believes is the first commercial chipset based on the International Telecommunication Union, Standardization Sector (ITU-T) 's recently approved home networking standard, G.hn. Atheros Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHR) will be showing off its new home networking gateway hybrid chipset that integrates Ethernet, WiFi, and HomePlug powerline capabilities. (See Atheros Unveils Hybrid Home Network Chips.)

Broadpeak , the Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH; NYSE: TCH) spinoff targeting IPTV and cable operators with its video-on-demand (VoD) and content delivery network (CDN) technology, will show off its updated CDN management system, Mediator 3.0.

As for the service providers, we'll be looking to catch up with as many of those as we can, and recording some video interviews with operator executives (and industry analysts) during the show too, so keep an eye out for Light Reading TV footage from Paris.
