MUNICH -- Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP accesssolutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Playnetworks over copper and fibre access infrastructures, today announced thatit has extended its portfolio of uplink modules with the launch of theAT-SPFX family, its new range of Fast Ethernet fibre optic modules. TheAT-SPFX transceivers provide industry-standard 100BaseFX uplink capabilityin a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) format, eliminating the need forcustomers to purchase proprietary appliqués to provide a 100Mbps fibreuplink. In addition, the AT-SPFX family enables the switch to supporteither 100 or 1000Mbps operation.

Up to now, no industry-standard SFP format for older switches has beenavailable, obliging customers needing a 100Mbps uplink to buyvendor-specific, fixed format, appliqués which were often more expensivethan the SFP itself. The AT-SPFX family solves this problem by deliveringthe flexibility and compatibility of the industry-standard 100BaseFX formatin a small footprint, making it easier and more cost effective for customersto build or expand their network and facilitate service operations.
