HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that Arapahoe Telephone Company, an independent, family-owned carrier serving southern Nebraska, has selected the Total Access® 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) and Total Access 1124P Outside Plant (OSP) Broadband Multimedia Gateway (BMG) for its Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN) deployment. This solution will provide Arapahoe with a vastly improved access network capable of supporting the broadband needs of tomorrow.

“It was time for a network upgrade to enhance our ability to offer broadband services to all of our customers. The Total Access 5000 had the best mix of transport and access technologies to meet all of our needs,” said John E. Koller, general manager, Arapahoe Telephone Company. “We are building a core network of Total Access 5000s and expanding out to lower line count areas with the Total Access 1124Ps. This was a more cost-effective solution than retrofitting legacy cabinets and also provided the added benefits of shortening loop lengths for next-generation broadband service delivery. Knowing that ADTRAN has tens of thousands of 1100s deployed, we were very comfortable with our decision.”

“Fiber-to-the-Node is a great way to utilize the existing copper infrastructure for cost-effective delivery of enhanced broadband services. A Gigabit Ethernet drop from any Total Access 5000 node is all that's needed to push the 1124Ps deep into the Service Providers network. Being sealed, hardened, and using line powering, means that the cost of deployment for the Total Access 1124P is kept to a minimum,” said P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “ADTRAN has a long history of leadership in FTTN and the Total Access 1124P is a perfect solution for service providers like Arapahoe.”

The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a carrier class multi-service access and aggregation platform that bridges the gap between existing and next-generation networks. With an all-Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces over copper and fiber, easily scaling to support bandwidth-intensive applications. This scalable Ethernet architecture allows carriers to use the Total Access 5000 to address both legacy and next-generation services economically while providing a seamless path toward a converged network.

The Total Access 1124P combines the technology and cost-savings benefits of an OSP BMG, which allows service providers to deliver baseband POTS and broadband multimedia to any customer over a single phone line, with a POTS to Voice over IP (VoIP) gateway to expand service delivery in the access network. With 24 ADSL2+ ports and 24 POTS ports, the Total Access 1124P is the perfect size for rural FTTN applications. Environmentally sealed and hardened, the Total Access 1124P operates with ADTRAN's Total Access 5000 MSAP family to provide a complete broadband access solution.
