In May 2024, Euskaltel released the first gigabit FTTR solution and commercial package in Spain. This solution extends a transparent optical fiber to each room to ensure gigabit Wi-Fi and superior smart home experience, providing ultra-speed optical broadband to millions of Spanish households.

As applications such as smart home appliances, HD videos, live streaming, and cloud games in digital home scenarios become popular, homes are gradually transformed to diversified production centers that integrate office, education, and entertainment. To cope with challenges from both bandwidth and experience, Euskaltel launched the Whole-House Gigabit broadband brand based on Huawei's FTTR solution, aiming to provide users with gigabit Wi-Fi services and a new smart home experience.

Compared with traditional networking modes such as copper cables and mesh Wi-Fi, FTTR can solve problems such as poor signal coverage, rate decrease after wall penetration, and frame freezing during roaming, creating a new experience of optical fiber broadband and digital home. The FTTR solution consists of one main FTTR and one or several sub FTTRs. The main FTTR servers as the broadband entrance, and sub FTTRs are installed in rooms as required. With the Wi-Fi 6 technology, FTTR enables gigabit Wi-Fi coverage in the whole house and provides a smooth experience in services such as download, 4K, XR, and cloud gaming. FTTR supports more than 100 concurrent terminal services, providing Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and an immersive digital experience for smart home users. When a user moves from one room to another, the Wi-Fi connection can be switched instantly to ensure uninterrupted services such as video conferencing and games, enabling seamless roaming and stable Wi-Fi connections.

The FTTR package released by Euskaltel starts from one main FTTR and one sub FTTR at a cost of 10 euros per month. Users can choose to install more sub FTTRs at a cost of 5 euros per sub FTTR based on their residence layout, structure, and network access requirements. Both new and installed-base users can subscribe to the package. After a user subscribes to the FTTR package, FTTR engineers provide customized installation of transparent optical fibers based on the home environment without damaging wall surfaces and the decoration of various residences, ensuring flexible and elegant cabling.

Euskaltel has been committed to providing users with premium products and services through leading-edge technologies. By working with Huawei, Euskaltel will continuously strengthen the FTTR brand and enrich services to help Spanish households enter the gigabit broadband era. By deploying gigabit FTTR networks, Euskaltel provides home users with a more efficient, personalized, and intelligent network experience, and defines a new intelligent life in the digital era. In the future, Euskaltel will continue to leverage leading technologies to enrich people's work and life, and accelerate Spain's digitalization process and digital economy.
