BT Staff Vote on Strike

8:15 AM -- More than 50,000 staff at BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) are today being balloted on possible strike action, with expectations high that the Communication Workers Union members will vote in favor of industrial action over their latest pay offer. (See BT Staff to Vote on Strike.)

According to The Guardian, the result of the ballot will be announced on July 5, with the union prepared to hold lengthy strikes to get a better deal than the 2 percent pay rise currently on offer from BT.

The carrier is believed to be preparing for the strike with plans to have members of its middle management ready to do front-line, customer-facing operations to ensure that broadband and voice services aren't too badly affected.
