PHOENIX -– In Q3 2003 the Broadband equipment market in China grew 90 percent sequentially. Synergy Research Group (SRG) segments the total Broadband equipment market to include both Cable and xDSL infrastructure.

According to market analysis by Synergy Research Group (SRG), the Chinese Broadband Market is primarily being driven by multimedia file downloading, Voice over IP, and gaming applications.

“Chinese Telcos see DSL as a new revenue stream and are investing heavily in DSL infrastructure based on ATM and IP,” said Stan Zhiyong Zou, Industry Analyst at Synergy Research Group, “Although Broadband equipment manufacturers are increasingly facing commoditization in the market, the massive volume of subscribers in China and revenue potential from emerging applications are attracting worldwide manufacturers to this unique market opportunity. Furthermore, SRG does not see this surge in demand abating anytime soon and is forecasting DSL subscribers in China to exceed 20 million by 2004.”
