PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Paris: Euronext and NYSE: ALU)announced today that it has provided, together with its systems integration partner Fiberdata, an advanced fiber access solution to Jönköping Energi, a Swedish electric company. Alcatel-Lucent’s gigabit passive optical networking (GPON) solution is allowing Jönköping Energi to deliver triple play services (voice, video and data) while realizing the benefits of increased reliability and lower maintenance expenses.
Recent Alcatel-Lucent GPON successes include incumbent operators such as Singtel and Verizon, as well as local community projects in the U.S. and the Nordics. This is one of the first utility providers in Sweden to announce a GPON fiber access solution, with initial deployments begun in the fourth quarter of 2006.
