Bay Microsystems and the Department of Defense's Naval Research Lab demonstrate first 10-Gbit/s platform with OC-192 ATM SAR at SC2002

BALTIMORE -- Bay Microsystems Inc., a leader in high performance Internetworking Processors and Traffic Managers, today announced the industry's first OC192c ATM-to-IP interworking platform, called the IDS10G. Bay's Montego processor, the industry's only OC192c/Quad OC48c single-chip internetworking processor/traffic manager with integrated ATM SAR, powers the IDS10G. Bay Microsystems, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense (Washington, DC), will be demonstrating the IDS10G at the SC2002 conference in Baltimore, MD, November 19-23. The demonstration, in conjunction with the Naval Research Laboratory, can be seen in the Marconi booth (#1113). "The realization of deterministic wire speed OC192c ATM to IP interworking and cell processing by Bay's Montego processor raises the bar on streams technology and allows us to grow new broadband services for the DoD," said Hank Dardy, chief scientist, NRL. The first of its kind demonstration sponsored by the Naval Research Laboratory will support multiservice switch routers, supercomputing servers, fibre channel storage area devices, and ultra high-resolution graphic rendering devices all interconnected through an OC192c ATM network enabled by Bay's IDS10G interworking platform, powered by Montego. The SC2002 demonstration will be initiated at NRL's facility in Washington, DC and transverse the Washington area ATDnet network connecting multiple government agencies including NSA, DIA, DISA, DARPA, NASA and the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX) consortium. The OC-192c stream will then continue onto a MAX-engineered DWDM link to Baltimore culminating on the show floor. Show attendees will experience 4-Gbps remote fibre channel access and while simultaneously seeing multiple 1.5 Gbps ultra-high resolution uncompressed HDTV video streams. Vendors participating in the demonstration, in addition to Bay Microsystems, include Marconi, LightSand, Silicon Graphics, Brocade, Decru and Apple. Bay Microsystems Inc.
