SEATTLE and SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Aventail, the leading SSL VPN product company, and NetContinuum, the worldwide leader in application firewalls, today announced a partnership that will provide enterprise customers with the most comprehensive solution available for application-layer security. The new solution combines the strongest protection possible for mission-critical application data from NetContinuum with the highest level of application-aware remote access for employees and business partners from Aventail.

“The integration of an SSL VPN and application firewall makes perfect sense and provides companies with the essential capability of secure remote access with application-specific access control and attack prevention,” said Mark Bouchard, senior analyst at META Group, a leading provider of IT research, advisory services and strategic consulting. “In the same way that network-layer VPNs and firewalls became more tightly integrated in the mid 1990s, we expect application-layer VPNs and firewalls to do the same.”

Engineering teams from both companies have tested the joint solution to ensure interoperability and ease of implementation. The two companies will also be working with each other’s channel partners to ease distribution, joint sales, training and implementation of the products.

“Customers are increasingly demanding application-aware security products designed with the realities of today’s web-centric business environment in mind. Aventail and NetContinuum are leaders in this space, and we are thrilled to offer this joint solution to our customers,” said Joseph Dell, CTO of Vigilar, an information security solution provider based in Georgia that resells both Aventail and NetContinuum products. “This is the perfect marriage because Aventail and NetContinuum fundamentally understand the need to provide easy and quick access to application resources while providing absolute security against all types of attacks and threats.”
