Kontron and Astute Networks will conduct interoperability and performance testing between the Kontron AT8030, a 10GbE multi-core AdvancedTCA processor board featuring three Intel® Core™ Duo processors, and the Astute Networks Caspian AdvancedTCA 10Gb iSCSI high-capacity storage board. Together, these two pre-validated and pre-tested boards will enable telecom equipment manufacturers to design and rapidly offer their carrier, service provider and multi-system operator (MSO) clients an economical method to deploy next-generation multi-media networks, while having a non-disruptive path to scale the size and performance of these systems over time. The partnership between Kontron and Astute Networks will also include suitability testing for applications requiring high-performance edge compute/storage solutions, as well as joint sales and marketing activities to support these products.

BARCELONA -- Kontron, a leading global provider of open modular solutions for the communications market, showcased today at Mobile World Congress the Kontron OM9020, an AdvancedTCA 10GbE integrated platform that elegantly solves the price versus performance concerns of telecom equipment manufacturers who need to design non-redundant systems for edge and access applications used in data center, regional CO, and enterprise networks.
As a 2-slot, space-saving 2U AdvancedTCA platform, the Kontron OM9020 realizes its cost savings by eliminating the need for an AdvancedTCA switch board, which is replaced by an on-board Ethernet switch. This enables a Fat Pipe interconnect between the two slots via the backplane. For external connectivity, the platform features two GbE/10GbE uplink modules that access the switching fabric and base interfaces, also via the backplane. Each module is hot swappable and is dedicated to one AdvancedTCA board. Moreover, the Shelf Manager has been replaced by a software implementation hosted on either Kontron AdvancedTCA board, and provides a cost-efficient Shelf Management solution to provide sensor data to the platform’s System Alarm Panel.
The Kontron OM9020 comes pre-integrated with one very high density, multi-core processor board, the Kontron AT8030, featuring three Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processors each with dedicated memory, a 10 GbE fabric interface, and one AdvancedMC slot for a SATA storage module. The second board, the Kontron AT8404, is an AdvancedTCA 10 GbE AMC carrier board that supports GbE, PCIe and SAS/SATA connectivity across four slots for various combinations of storage, processing and TDM / IO AdvancedMC modules. Optionally, RTMs may be used in the back for SAS connections to external storage, as well as for FE and RS232 management interfaces.
