AT&T: Broadband in Alaska

5:55 PM -- An interesting, albeit quiet, announcement of a mobile WiMax technology deployment by AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today in Alaska of all places. (See AT&T Deploys AL WiMax.)

I believe this is the first real deployment of WiMax by AT&T, although BellSouth was said to be testing some form of the technology, way back when.

It also appears to be focusing on cable or DSL-like pure broadband data services rather than the all-singing, all-dancing rollout from Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S).

Still, I'm curious to see if this deployment will lead to more WiMax from AT&T.

re: AT&T: Broadband in Alaska I understand they are using 802.16e, but isn't this a fixed deployment?
