4:30 AM -- 3G and national broadband plans up in air
November 24, 2010
4:30 AM -- Thailand is struggling to set out a clear telecom development roadmap, according to local reports.
The country's 3G license debacle has been going on for some time: Privately held operators were denied the opportunity to bid for 3G licenses by a court injunction in September, and are now looking to use existing spectrum to launch 3G services, reports Reuters. (See Thai Court Halts 3G Plan.)
Now the Thai government has outlined a national broadband policy, and is looking to get the country's fixed-line players to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and get involved in creating a national broadband network.
However, the plan has been criticized as being limited, lacking detail, and labeled a "political ploy," reports The Bangkok Post.
