India Sets New 3G Auction Date

Ray Le Maistre

8:55 AM -- Here we go again! India's Department of Telecommunications has set a new date for auction of 3G spectrum: April 9, 2010.

That's in line with the timescale the country's telecom minister was referencing earlier this week. (See India Watch: 3G Wait Over?)

Applications to take part in the auction need to be submitted by the end of March 19. The auction winners will be awarded spectrum in the 2.1GHz band.

Two days after the 3G auction process ends, the so-called BWA auction, of unpaired spectrum in the 2.3GHz band that will likely be used for WiMax services, will begin.
