Armstrong Picks Terayon Gear for All-Digital Push

Armstrong Cable has tapped Terayon Communication Systems for help in launching digital simulcasting. The two companies announced Tues. that Armstrong is using the Terayon DM 6400 Network CherryPicker platform to ease the cable operator's move to an all-digital network. Armstrong said it's deploying the Terayon CherryPickers to enable a range of applications in conjunction with its all-digital transition, including rate-shaping and statistically remultiplexing both national and local programming streams for distribution throughout the MSO's network at its master headend. Armstrong is also using the CherryPickers to enable Comcast Spotlight, which sells ad space in most Armstrong markets, to insert local ads on digital networks. Armstrong serves more than 200,000 cable subscribers in five states.
