Are You Ready for Some Football?

2:00 PM -- If you are a diehard football fan [ed. note: I pretend to be], then you’ll be happy to know Verizon Wireless and Sprint have you covered while you're on-the-go. Both carriers unveiled NFL-related mobile apps this week, just in time for next week’s draft.

Verizon’s NFL Mobile app includes detailed profiles of NFL players and prospects, team updates, mock drafts, and content pulled from the NFL network, along with live coverage of the draft. VZW has also promised to add training camp updates and preseason tilts to the app, optimized for select VZW smartphones, including the Motorola Droid, BlackBerry Storm2, and Samsung Rogue.

Verizon’s football app is the first NFL mobile offering to come from its four-year exclusive sponsorship agreement with the NFL -- an agreement that The Wall Street Journal believes to be worth around $720 million.

Sprint’s new Sprint Football Live app will broadcast live coverage of the draft for any subscriber with a data plan and includes a live draft tracker, in-depth profiles, and analysis. Sprint also enlisted projected top picks Sam Bradford and Ndamukong Suh to write exclusive, behind-the-screens blogs for Sprint subscribers.

Ball’s in your court, AT&T. Or something like that.
