Apple's White Elephant

1:05 PM -- Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is still struggling to make the white iPhone 4. It put out a brief statement today:

White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

Why on earth is it so hard to make a differently colored casing for the iPhone?

They probably shouldn't bother with white iPhone 4s at all anymore, since they are going to require a case anyway. The cases can make it white, black, pink, purple or even bedazzled.

1 - (Humorous) Racism?  White cases!

2 - (Serious) It could be that they are having issues in the molding that the case is not looking good when it comes out.  There are normally artifacts of that are covered up if they are severe through texturing.  Darker materials tend to show those artifacts less than light ones.

Also, FYI, every handset maker has trouble making the white ones. It's an industry-wide problem. :)

Typical of Apple fanatics, worrying about the color of their cases.
