Apple: By the Numbers

2:10 PM -- Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)'s new CEO, Tim Cook, stuck to the Steve Jobs-patented format at the company's Cupertino iPhone event Tuesday by using his first 15 minutes on stage to tout Apple's enormous growth in the past few years. (See Apple Picking: Before the iPhone Launch.)

And the numbers are nothing to sneeze at, as we present the latest figures in Apple's quest for mobile domination:

iPhone
 • 357 total Apple retail stores in 11 countries
 • 93 percent of Fortune 500 companies are testing or deploying the iPhone
 • iPhone captures 5 percent market share of handsets globally
 • iPhone 4 accounts for more than half of all iPhones sold to date

iPad
 • iPad customer satisfaction ratings at 95 percent
 • Every state in the U.S. has an iPad pilot program or is deploying an iPad-centric program
 • Three out of four tablets sold in the U.S. are iPads

iOS
 • iOS-based devices have passed the quarter of a billion sales mark;
 • iOS is the No. 1 mobile OS
 • iOS accounts for 61 percent of mobile browsing

Mobile Apps
 • 500,000 apps in the App Store, more than 140,000 of which are iPad-specific
 • Customers have downloaded 18 billion apps in just over 3 years
 • Apple has paid out more than $3 billion to developers
 • Customers are downloading more than 1 billion apps per month

re: Apple: By the Numbers

Interesting points:

Customers have downloaded 18 billion apps in just over 3 years

Apple has paid out more than $3 billion to developers

Let's say 1/3 of 18B are paid APPs and $3B paid out in the same 3 years, the developers got $0.50 per ... that's half of lowest price $0.99 ...

Go figure ...

The company has $28B in cash. You think they got all that because they're generous?
