Real-Time Analytics Serves Multiple Functions

Beyond its ability to immediately provide data when needed in the transparent form of customized dashboards, the impact of real-time analytics can be seen in the ways that companies are using it in recent product announcements.

Real-time analytics provides the boost some companies need to expand outside their traditional business lines. (See 8x8 Creates UC, Collaboration Cloud.)

It also is used for things like beefing up storage at the edge of the network, as enterprises look to maximize applications requiring low latency and high performance. (See Equinix Taking Storage to the Edge.)

Likewise, it's being used to support Internet of Things initiatives, as it grows into a more competitive arena for cloud providers. (See Oracle Beefs Up IoT Cloud.)

Already, there are a number of companies and products featured in Virtuapedia that include real-time analytics, with a few standouts such as:

  • Sandvine Network Analytics, designed for converged-access communication service providers (CSPs), can break down audio and video statistics in real time according to number of views, media duration and quality of experience (QoE), as well as different views, such as content provider and region.

  • Smart Traffic Collector from Vedicis is deep-packet inspection and real-time analytics software that turns IP broadband traffic into insight and actionable events for marketing and network analytics.

  • The VirtualWisdom platform from Virtual Instruments provides insights into the performance and availability of infrastructure across physical, virtual and cloud environments.

More than 1,500 companies and 1,600 products are now listed in Virtuapedia, making it the telecom industry’s most comprehensive resource for all things related to virtualization. Some 13,000 network professionals also are now registered with Virtuapedia, giving them access not only to vendor and product information but also to the latest industry news and research from Heavy Reading.
