SAN DIEGO -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (NASDAQ:AMCC - news), a leader in high-bandwidth silicon connectivity solutions for the world's optical networks, today announced the availability of the S3097 transmitter and S3098 receiver with clock and data recovery (CDR) and post-amplifier chipset. The S3097 and S3098 silicon germanium (SiGe) OC-192 devices build upon the advanced features of AMCC's industry-leading S3091/S3092 transmitter/receiver chipset, which has been shipping in high volume since Q3, 2000. The S3097 and S3098 second-generation solutions now offer customers a combination of the industry's lowest jitter generation and power with a highly-integrated post-amplifier. Designed for SONET/SDH and proposed 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications, the S3097 and S3098 can be used in either 200 MSA or 300 MSA-based transponders/optical modules and operate at OC-192 with Forward Error Correction (FEC).

"Our first generation OC-192 chipset led the industry with its unparalleled time-to-volume," said Ken Prentiss, AMCC's director of marketing for telecom products. "We anticipate our S3097 and S3098 chipset will have a tremendous impact on our customers by not only providing a reduction in power and cost, but offering the industry's leading performance including low jitter generation, high-speed edge rates and enhanced signal integrity. This introduction clearly demonstrates AMCC's continued strength as the leading high-volume provider of 10 Gbps off-the-shelf silicon solutions."
