Announces the appointment of Steve Smith to the position of vice president, controller

SAN DIEGO -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (NASDAQ:AMCC - news) today announced the appointment of Steve Smith to the position of vice president, controller at AMCC. Smith will report directly to Bill Bendush, CFO and senior vice president of finance and administration for AMCC. Smith, who previously held the position of vice president of business development, succeeds Monte Reed, who will be retiring on July 31, 2001. A 15 year veteran of AMCC, Reed has held the position of controller since 1985. AMCC's Director of Business Development, Gary Amato, will drive all business development activities, including potential investments, mergers and acquisitions, and will report directly to Brent Little, senior vice president of marketing for AMCC. Monte has made a tremendous contribution to the success of AMCC. He has scaled the finance organization and has been instrumental in helping the company grow. We wish him the best as he enters retirement," said Bendush. "This will be a smooth transition for Steve, as a large part of his experience has been in the financial arena. I expect that Steve will further build upon Monte's accomplishments, and continue to contribute to AMCC's financial growth and success."
