Dr. Fred J. Leonberger has joined Alphion's Board of Directors bringing with him a strong understanding of photonic technologies and business

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. -- Alphion Corporation, a leader in innovative integrated components for photonic regeneration, signal conditioning, wavelength management, and performance monitoring, announced that Dr. Fred J. Leonberger has joined the Board of Directors. Dr. Leonberger's 25 years of experience in the optoelectronics industry brings a strong understanding of photonic technologies and business to Alphion's board.

Dr. Leonberger is currently the Principal of EOvation Technologies LLC, a technology advisory firm he founded in July 2003. He also serves on the Boards of RF MicroDevices and Agility Communications, has a senior advisory position in photonics at MIT, and works with companies in the photonics and fiber optics industry. From 1999 until his retirement in June 2003, Fred served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of JDS Uniphase Corporation, a leading optical components supplier. He previously held a similar position at Uniphase Corporation prior to its merger with JDS Fitel in 1999. He joined Uniphase in 1995 upon its acquisition of UTP, a company he co-founded and served as General Manager. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has held a variety of staff and management positions at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and United Technologies Research Center.
