Names Dr. David Newman president and CEO, Al Sadler, COO; cuts a third of its workforce

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- David Newman has been named president and chief executive officer at Alidian Networks, Inc., succeeding Barton Shigemura, who has been promoted to chairman of the board of directors. Dr. Newman, a co-founder of Alidian and a member of the company's board of directors, had previously been vice president of engineering. In addition, Alidian has named Al Sadler chief operating officer, responsible for engineering, manufacturing and financial operations for the company. Sadler, who has returned to Alidian after a brief stint with a networking startup, had been vice president of operations from October 1999 until July 2001. Shigemura, in his role as Alidian chairman, will focus on handling strategic accounts and partnerships. He will also continue to work with the investment community and assist in major sales opportunities. Dr. Newman retains in his role as a venture partner with Charles River Ventures. Prior to co-founding Alidian in 1998, he had been vice president of engineering at Rapid City Communications and, before that, vice president of engineering for Fore Systems' LAN Switching Division. Alidian this week also reduced its staff by approximately 50 people, bringing the company's employee count to just under 100; the reductions were made across all departments at the company.Alidian Networks Inc.
