MADISON, Wisc. -- Alfalight, Inc., a developer of high-power laser diodes for the fiber optic communications market, announced today the opening of its new worldwide headquarters - a 20,000 square foot facility in Madison, Wisconsin. Eric Apfelbach, CEO, stated, "The new facility will house Alfalight's world-class research, development, engineering, and wafer manufacturing operations, which will facilitate significant in-house development and accelerate our product introductions." Alfalight will package its products in its Canadian operations in Montreal, Quebec. Alfalight has grown to over 30 employees and expects significant growth in both geographic areas.

Alfalight's target customers are the worldwide subsystem and system manufacturers of DWDM, metro-DWDM, long-haul, ultra long-haul and broadband optical transmission equipment. Alfalight is a rapidly growing venture-backed company developing high-power, pump lasers for the telecommunications fiber amplifier market. Alfalight's product development team members possess strong individual backgrounds in aluminum-free diode laser design, high power laser packaging, MOCVD epitaxial growth, III-V material processing and high volume manufacturing. Alfalight has a 12,000 s.f. class 1000 clean room manufacturing facility under construction at the headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin and a 15,000 s.f. laser packaging facility under construction in Montreal, Quebec.
