Airespace Schtum on Switch

Wireless LAN switch startup Black Storm Networks Inc. has changed its name to Airespace Inc. [ed. note: got tired of being mistaken for a malt liquor?] and snagged $15.5 million in two rounds of funding.

Battery Ventures, KTB Venture Capital, Norwest Venture Partners, and Storm Ventures are among the VC firms fronting the cash.

And that’s all the news that Airespace [pron: airee-spakee] feels is fit to print.

"We're not ready to talk about the technology yet," Alan Cohen, VP of marketing and product management, told us when we finally managed to get on the phone with him yesterday. Regular readers may remember Alan, as he was a marketer for Tahoe Networks in a former life (see Tahoe Confirms Cutbacks).

When will Airespace be ready to tell us more? "Sometime soon," says Cohen. We can't wait!

In the absence of anything else to write about, Unstrung asked some top wireless marketeers what they thought of the new name. "It’s shit!" gushed one, who requested, and was granted, anonymity. "Like there aren't enough startups around with stupid 'Air' names already," he, she, or it added. [Ed. note: see AirFlow Networks, AirGo Networks, Air & Waste Management Association, etc.]
