Within about five years, small AI models will be embedded in our phones, our cameras, and many other everyday objects.
That’s just one part of the vision laid out by Tayeb Ben Meriem, Vice Chair of the IPv6 Forum. At an industrial scale, the possibilities become even more compelling.
“We may have thousands of AI model instances running simultaneously, each one supporting a particular business or operational objective,” he told Huawei Editor-in-Chief Gavin Allen in an interview with Transform Talks.
The next five years, Dr. Ben Meriem predicts, will bring innovation to a range of industries, improving productivity in manufacturing, financials, mining, oil and gas, and ushering in breakthroughs in the realm of video and immersive entertainment.
But to maximize the benefits of these new technologies, we will need to take a holistic view of them.
“We can’t make the mistake of looking at these technologies in a siloed manner – for example, focusing on IPv6 by itself, or just on the benefits of AI,” he said. “Because when you try to maximize the benefits of one technology, you may inadvertently curtail the benefits of another, in a way that you’re not aware of.”
