MARLBOROUGH, Mass -- Telica, Inc., a leading provider of softswitch-based voice and data infrastructure products for today's evolving telecommunications network, announces that GoTel Communications Limited, a fixed wireless provider supplying corporate and residential subscribers with reliable broadband connectivity and telephone services throughout the island of Jamaica, has deployed the Plexus(tm) 9000 to provide integrated voice and data services via IP access to its customers.
GoTel Communications utilizes fixed wireless radio signal technology and has a nationwide network that provides coverage to metropolitan and residential areas of Jamaica. GoTel selected the Telica solution for its compelling economics and application flexibility. The Plexus 9000, currently running live traffic, is being utilized as a Class 4/5 switch providing both TDM and IP-based services. Telica worked closely with The Lewis Group, Inc., a telecommunications network systems integration and installation service-company, to deliver a complete end-to-end solution that met the needs of GoTel and its subscribers.
"The Lewis Group prides itself on deploying cutting-edge technologies and Telica fits directly in line with this strategy of bringing superior technology and value to our forward-thinking customers, such as GoTel." said David Eason, President of The Lewis Group.
"There is tremendous pent-up demand for telecommunications services throughout Jamaica," said George Neil, President of GoTel Communications. "Our deployment of the Telica VoIP solution, coupled with our island-wide wireless network enables us to meet this demand with first-rate service and cost effectiveness."
Telica's solution offers integration into legacy networks, utilizes the advantages of next generation packet switching technology and meets the economic objectives of carriers for both local and long distance, residential and business services. As carriers strategically transform their networks to offer next generation services and meet the demands of today's evolving telecommunications needs, deploying the Plexus 9000 enables them to continue to provide efficient voice and data services.
"Telica has tremendous excitement for our growing international deployments, especially in countries such as Jamaica where the development of the telecom infrastructure can have such a positive socio-economic impact," said Bryan Sheppeck, Telica's Vice President of Sales and Customer Service.
Telica's Plexus 9000 is a carrier-grade switch that includes all the elements of a softswitch-based solution, media gateway, media gateway controller and signaling gateway, to provide Class 4/5 switching for the PSTN as well as ATM and IP networks. These various softswitch components may be deployed in either a distributed or integrated configuration to meet a wide range of network requirements. A single Plexus 9000 shelf supports 137,088 ports for TDM applications and 24,192 simultaneous calls for voice over packet applications. The unparalleled density and architectural deployment options provide the highest level of flexibility for service providers.
