HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN - News), a leading supplier of next-generation network solutions, today announced that the company has enhanced its carrier Ethernet capabilities with the acquisition of all intellectual property and world-wide product rights from Luminous Networks. In addition to integrating the Luminous technologies into existing and future ADTRAN products, the company will continue to manufacture selected Luminous products.

"This is another step in our long-established strategy to aid carriers in the migration to IP access architectures," said Kevin Schneider, chief technology officer, ADTRAN. "The acquisition of these technologies, used globally by service providers to deliver carrier-class Ethernet services, both strengthens and broadens our business service offerings."

"The market for Ethernet-based carrier services is growing at a rapid rate," said Michael Howard, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. "Our research indicates that a majority of service providers have deployed Ethernet collector rings in 2005, and the number is increasing, and many of these are offering Ethernet services over RPR, and more plan to in the near future. The addition of these technologies to ADTRAN's product line is a good move and will allow them to address this growing market with a full portfolio."
