Adelphia Taps BigBand for Digital Simulcast & VoIP

Adelphia Communications is getting into the digital simulcasting game, tapping BigBand Networks to convert its Los Angeles system to all-digital transmissions. The latest MSO to plunge into digital simulcasting, Adelphia is relying on BigBand's Broadband Multi-Service Routers (BMRs) and Broadband Real-Time Encoder (BTE) to make the necessary signal conversions. Adelphia thus joins Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable and other cable operators in launching digital simulcasts in at least one market. At the same time, Adelphia plans to use BigBand's Cuda cable modem termination system (CMTS) for voice over IP (VoIP) service launches. BigBand said the MSO is now testing Cuda and the vendor's FastFlow broadband provisioning manager in at least one market.
