LONDON -- ABB, a leading Swiss manufacturer of power and automation technologies, has signed an agreement to market Tellabs' state-of-the-art managed transport and optical networking equipment to power and utility companies worldwide. Tellabs products help these companies and telecommunications service providers to cost-effectively collect and aggregate voice and data traffic in access and transport networks.

Through the agreement, ABB will provide power and utility companies around the world with the Tellabs(R) 6300 managed transport system and the Tellabs(R) 7200 optical transport system. Tellabs' solutions will enable ABB to design flexible telecommunication networks carrying voice and high-speed data traffic. Carrier-class end-to-end manageability will improve provisioning, availability and security of communication links, whilst significantly reducing operational costs.

"Through our partnership agreement with Tellabs, we can provide our customers with best-in-class voice and data transport solutions," said Rene Weiss, product manager optical networks at ABB. "This lowers their total cost of ownership: their telecommunications infrastructure will benefit from reliable and scalable communication systems today, and their networks can be easily upgraded when required to deliver next-generation applications and services."

"Tellabs develops strategic alliances with major companies to extend our reach to new customers in fast-growing markets," said Anders Gustafsson, president of Tellabs International. "Through our partnership with ABB, we can further expand our international business and enable power and utility companies to improve their communication systems significantly, from both a technical and an economic perspective."

The Tellabs 6300 managed transport series is a breakthrough next-generation SDH platform which seamlessly adds Ethernet capabilities to the transport network to enable sophisticated multi-service networking. The Tellabs 7200 optical transport system is a 64-channel DWDM solution that provides multiwavelength optical add/drop, integrated SDH and open transponder interfaces to support Gigabit Ethernet, legacy protocols, ATM and IP applications. These leading-edge, high-density products are already widely deployed throughout Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
