700 MHz Auctions, Rounds 26-27

11:12 AM -- Is the bidding in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) 's 700 MHz auction finally slowly down? This morning's minuscule 0.85 percent rise in bids to $18.7 billion for the wireless broadband spectrum suggests that might be the case.

The two big nationwide chunks of spectrum -- the 50-state C band license and the public safety D band offering -- don't appear to be gathering any more bids at the moment. In fact, the D band has never moved from its paltry $472 million opening and could get re-auctioned.

Instead, the pattern of bidding seems to suggest a mop-up operation as carriers look to add capacity in specific regions in the U.S.
