As 5G construction and service development pick up the pace, China Mobile Henan has to tackle major challenges in network O&M. Their network management objectives are rapidly shifting from ensuring stable network operations to efficiently supporting service development. And so, China Mobile Henan has decided to drive the digital and intelligent transformation of networks using autonomous networks.
China Mobile Henan and Huawei have completed scaled commercial deployment of their wireless intelligent O&M solution in Henan Province's Sanmenxia and Luoyang. Based on the IntelligentRAN architecture, the solution leverages RAN Digital Twins System(RDTS) to integrate intelligent diagnosis and fault prediction into production flows. Intelligent diagnosis can quickly improve troubleshooting efficiency, while intelligent fault prediction proactively identifies risks and makes rectification in advance, significantly improving base station operation quality. This intelligent O&M solution helps China Mobile Henan improve intelligent O&M capabilities and get closer to "zero-fault" operations on their intelligent networks.
Multi-dimensional aggregation analysis and precise fault locating
Traditional troubleshooting relies on the skills and experience of onsite personnel, who can only handle one fault at a time. Live networks are constantly kicking back alarms, resulting in extremely low troubleshooting and resource scheduling efficiency. This, in turn, drives up network O&M OPEX. Intelligent capabilities such as fault feature self-learning and knowledge graphs allow intelligent fault diagnosis to analyze alarms based on the spatiotemporal correlation algorithm to identify their root cause correlations. The intelligent aggregation technology reduces redundant correlated alarms by over 90%. In addition, RDTS implements precise fault demarcation and locating. The Sanmenxia branch of China Mobile Henan has already been able to integrate this intelligent diagnosis capability into routine troubleshooting, greatly improving the troubleshooting efficiency.
Eliminating potential risks at the source to support base station operations
In the 5G era, "always-online services" have become a basic requirement. Traditionally, a single fault always results in a single support ticket. This is not good enough for next-gen services though. To achieve "zero fault" operations, O&M needs to be less responsive and more predictive and preventive. Intelligent fault prevention and prediction rely on a model based in massive network data and rich expert experience. It can predict software and hardware faults as well as performance deterioration (such as overheating boards, optical module faults, and backup power faults) on the network. It can also eliminate faults before they occur. Based on China Mobile Henan's network performance in Luoyang, proactive prediction and prevention can detect these potential faults more than seven days in advance. Early rectification can effectively reduce the service interruption duration of a single site by about 1 hour, greatly improving user experience.
With the assistance of Huawei's innovations, China Mobile Henan's explorations into autonomous networks have been wildly successful, winning the company multiple industry awards in 2023. In the future, China Mobile Henan and Huawei will continue to pursue joint exploration and practice in autonomous wireless networks, focusing on improving O&M efficiency, improving user experience, reducing network energy consumption, and more. This cooperation will continue to support network evolution and intelligent transformation for China Mobile Henan(Author: Li Rui,Su Keyuan.).
