TOKYO -- Today, IPMobile (HQ: Tokyo, Japan) and IPWireless (HQ: San Bruno, CA, USA) announced the commencement of the field test in the 2.5GHz band of TD-CDMA(*1) Evolved Release 7 (E-R7) system, the newest technical release based on UMTS TD-CDMA technology. Furthermore, IPMobile has been granted the license to conduct the field test on December 8, 2006 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
E-R7 is a technical enhancement of the TD-CDMA standard approved by the 3GPP standardization body. IPWireless has already demonstrated the E-R7 solution in other trials and is currently moving forward with commercial development.
The theoretical maximum downlink transmission rate is 42.2 Mbps (field test equipment measures maximum downlink transmission of over 30Mbps). The performance of TD-CDMA E-R7 exceeds other known Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems (*2),.
Field tests will be conducted in Tokyo, and items of the field test include operational frequency propagation; data communication speed measurements; testing of various internet applications; and High Definition TV streaming.
