LONDON -- Actix, the global provider of wireless performance engineering solutions, has today announced that 3GIS in Sweden has deployed Actix’ latest 3G network optimization solution to accelerate its network tuning process. This will assist 3GIS, owned by Vodafone and 3, to meet the 3G network rollout deadlines specified by the Swedish government regulator. 3GIS is providing the UMTS infrastructure in rural areas for the 3G operators Vodafone and 3 in Sweden, and its network will cover estimated 70% of the country’s population. 3GIS selected Actix’ solution because of the power and flexibility of the software and critically, its ability to enable data sets from different vendors’ measuring systems to be analyzed together.
Actix solutions are entirely vendor independent and enable operators to analyze raw wireless network data from a mix of network technologies, systems and data collection solutions in fine detail. This gives a complete picture of vital wireless functions and the quality of service delivery from the subscriber’s perspective; it also enables engineers to ‘drill down’ to the root cause of any deficiencies.
A-RVS, the Actix solution deployed by 3GIS, enables engineers to meet the challenge of assessing subscriber-perceived performance for wireless voice and packet data networks, and can be used as an integral part of network rollout prior to launch and on an ongoing basis thereafter. The latest version of A-RVS adds to, and enhances, the range of features that wireless operators using Actix’ technology already benefit from. Three of these key features include intelligence embedded into software, pre-defined analyses, and filters.
The embedded intelligence within Actix’ A-RVS is able to indicate to engineers potential reasons (for example pilot pollution or a missingneighbour) for events like dropped calls. The pre-defined analyses feature supports the generation of reports, stateforms, queries and filters. The stateforms functionality enables engineers to track the state of various parameters while replaying through a log file. Engineers can also perform complex analysis of the data using queries, and can refine the available data using filters.
Duncan Vardy, Head of Product Management, Actix said, “3GIS is unique because it is the first time competing operators with UMTS licenses, Vodafone and 3, are cooperating to build and operate a common infrastructure. This places unique requirements on technical solutions, and Actix’ vendor-independent software plays a key role in meeting 3GIS’ needs in optimizing its network.”
