Quantenna Quickens Intel Gateways
Chipmaker Quantenna announced Wednesday that its 802.11ac Wave 2 product, the QSR1000, is now supported by Intel Puma 6 video gateway reference designs. As a result, Quantenna claims it can help deliver "wire-like quality" to wireless video networks in the home.
The wireless world got a shock two weeks ago when Quantenna first brought its new QSR1000 product line to market. The solution is the only one in the industry to meet the Wave 2 802.11ac specification, which includes multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) support. (See Quantenna Claims Fastest 802.11ac Chipset.)
In layman's terms, that means Quantenna's chipset can deliver multiple wireless streams simultaneously to different client devices. With its 4x4 antenna configuration, for example, the chipset could transmit two wireless streams to one device and two steams each to two other clients. In total, Quantenna's new chips can support a throughput rate of 1.7 Gbit/s.
In a prepared statement, Quantenna CEO Dr. Sam Heidari said: "Our 4x4 solutions are successfully deployed with many major service providers worldwide due to the wire-like quality and whole-home coverage they deliver. Our signal reaches farther, transmits faster and stays steadier than any other available solution. We are delighted to be bringing the same quality to the cable MSOs for their video deployments and multimedia gateways by enabling the Intel Puma 6-based Video Gateway platforms with this technology."
Quantenna is demonstrating its new chipset at the Cable Show in Washington, D.C. next week. The reference design is available now for hardware manufacturers.
