Network operators are looking to virtual routers to increase their service agility, revenue opportunities and operational efficiency, and are implementing them in a wide variety of use cases. In this webinar, Juniper Networks’ Gurudatt "Guru" Shenoy will discuss the increasingly important role of virtual routers in modern networks and trends in virtual router adoption. He will also introduce the Juniper Networks vMX, a fully featured, virtual-edge router that runs on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) x86 servers, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace and the Juniper Networks NFX250 Network Services Platform, and explain the benefits it brings to provider edge, Hybrid Cloud Interconnect, route reflection, residential broadband and managed service use cases.

Guru and Heavy Reading moderator Sterling Perrin will be joined by Erik Bais of A2B Internet and Steven Teitzel of IBM who will discuss their production experience with virtual routers, techniques being applied in vCPE use cases at the network edge and observations and solutions that will help those in the industry realize their goals in the most efficient manner.



 

Sterling Perrin, Principal Analyst – Optical Networking & Transport, Heavy Reading
Sterling has more than 15 years' experience in telecommunications as an industry analyst and journalist. His coverage area at Heavy Reading is optical networking, including packet-optical transport. He also authors Heavy Reading's Packet-Enabled Optical Networking Market Tracker and Next-Gen Core Packet-Optical Market Tracker. Sterling joined Heavy Reading after five years at IDC, where he served as lead optical networks analyst, responsible for the firm's optical networking subscription research and custom consulting activities. Prior to IDC, Sterling worked for Standard & Poor's, where he delivered global industry analysis on a range of IT segments. He is a former journalist and editor at Telecommunications Magazine, and has also done consulting work for the research firm Current Analysis. Sterling is a frequent speaker at telecom industry events and a highly sought-after source among the business and trade press.

Gurudatt Shenoy, Director, Product Line Management, Juniper Networks
Gurudatt Shenoy is responsible for strategy and product management of Juniper's software, network orchestration and virtual platforms portfolio. His team works closely with Juniper's Cloud, SP and Enterprise customers to leverage software, automation and virtualization to transform their networks. Prior to his current role, he led IOS-XR software development and the core routing product management team at Cisco.

Erik Bais, Founder & Owner, A2B Internet
Erik Bais has a profound background in ISP consultancy and networking. After working for several International organizations like Tenneco Automotive and Accenture, he joined the ISP Industry in 2000 as a consultant for multiple ISP and ISP related projects. He soon he joined a Dutch Microsoft-oriented web-hosting company, and as their CTO transformed the company into a full-service all-round ISP. In 2005, Erik created an EMEA team for a US-based System Integrator focused on helping ISPs and Telcos with their Microsoft hosting strategy, and led multiple projects in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. In 2010 he founded A2B Internet, a company providing transit, full BGP network management (fiber) Internet access and networking services as well as services in Dutch datacenters. He is also co-founder of the Dutch IPV4 broker Prefix Broker.

Steven Teitzel, Global Solution Executive, Network & OSS Transformation, IBM
Steven Teitzel is responsible for the strategy and business development for IBM cloud-based networking with NFV/SDN, OSS and security enabling network and OSS transformations. He applies cognitive analytics, cloud, assurance and agile DevOps to build IBM cloud-based networking for the service provider network operations and infrastructure to take out cost and drive monetization of the network. Steven has been with IBM for 35 years as a solution executive, a managing principal, principal, consultant and architect within IBM Sales and Global Services for IT Strategy, Networking and Service Management.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling.
