Machine learning as well as artificial intelligence (AI) have come a long way in last ten years. IBM Watson super computer beating the world champions in the game of Jeopardy in 2011 marked the beginning of a new era – the era of cognitive computing. What does this mean for telecom and why should you care as a telecom executive?

Cognitive solutions can deliver as much as a 30% reduction in call volume for your call center, saving tens to hundreds of millions of dollars per year for customer care in telecom. Marketing can deliver highly tailored campaigns in real time to increase revenue and profits. Network operations can anticipate and avoid congestion during peak usage periods such as sporting events and holidays, reconfiguring existing capacity to deliver superior customer experience. However, it's not just about current opportunities; it's about building future AI capabilities to take advantage of the Internet of Things (IoT) and provide enhanced data analytics and security intelligence as valuable add-on services.

Learn all about latest developments in cognitive solutions for telecom with client case study insights and best practices for optimal system design and deployment.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling. Engelbert will also reveal new, original Ovum research on the topics of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, security and augmented reality, as well as discuss what each of those technologies might mean for women in our field. As always, we'll also leave plenty of time to answer all your questions live on the air and chat board.
