While legacy enterprise networking solutions consist of proprietary and closed hardware-based appliances from single suppliers, network functions virtualization (NFV)-based vE-CPE allows for a logical and flexible separation of hardware and software. Vertical silos with vendor lock-in are transformed into a flexible mix-and-match approach that allows service providers to gain maximum efficiency and flexibility by procuring hardware and software optimized for target use cases.

However, in a fast-moving competitive environment, the time from service evaluation to development and final deployment needs to be accelerated. CSPs require the ability to correctly size the compute, offload, memory and network throughput needed to sustain changing CPE workloads and network traffic types in the white box vE-CPE devices that they will eventually deploy.

This webinar will address the drivers, vE-CPE architectures, key use cases such as SD-WAN and discuss the implementation and test strategies that are vital to achieve successful vE-CPE implementations.



 

Jim Hodges, Senior Analyst, Core Network Evolution & Analytics, Heavy Reading
Jim leads Heavy Reading’s research on the impact of NFV on the control plane and application layers at the core and edge. This includes the evolution path of SIP applications, unified communications (UC), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), session border controllers (SBCs), Diameter signaling controllers (DSCs), policy controllers and WebRTC. Jim is also focused on the network and subscriber impact of Big Data and Analytics. He authors Heavy Reading's NFV and SDN Market Trackers. Other areas of research coverage include Subscriber Data Management (SDM) and fixed-line TDM replacement. Jim joined Heavy Reading from Nortel Networks, where he tracked the VoIP and application server market landscape and was a key contributor to the development of Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards. Additional technical experience was gained with Bell Canada, where he performed IN and SS7 network planning, numbering administration, technical model forecast creation and definition of regulatory-based interconnection models. Jim is based in Ottawa, Canada.

Mark Weiner, Chief Marketing Officer, Versa Networks
Mark Weiner is chief marketing officer at Versa Networks, where he brings over twenty years of leadership and market development experience in the networking, security and cloud sectors. Prior to joining Versa, Mark served in CMO roles at Centrify, StorSimple (acquired by Microsoft), Virtela (acquired by NTT), NetScaler (acquired by Citrix), and Redback Networks (RBAK), as well as led marketing for multiple business units at Cisco. He is also an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University. Mark holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Eric is Product Sales Manager at Advantech Networks & Communications Group. Eric has a technical background in embedded systems and networking equipment and works closely with customers and sales on new product design-ins. His expertise covers bladed technologies such as CompactPCI and ATCA as well as Carrier Grade Servers and Network Appliances. His current passion is setting up OpenStack test environments to help ecosystem partners and customers accelerate their NFV development using Advantech's Remote Evaluation Service. Paul is Marketing Director for Advantech’s Networks & Communications Group. Paul has focused on technology marketing roles since he joined Advantech in 2002. Prior to that he was European Marketing Manager at Motorola where he managed partner initiatives and helped evangelize new technology introductions. He is actively focused on helping build out Advantech’s NFV ecosystem. He studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the UK.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling. Engelbert will also reveal new, original Ovum research on the topics of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, security and augmented reality, as well as discuss what each of those technologies might mean for women in our field.
