Caroline Chappell, Principal Analyst, NFV & Cloud, Heavy Reading
Caroline leads Heavy Reading's research into service provider cloud adoption for internal IT, enterprise service delivery and network functions virtualization (NFV) purposes. She also covers technologies that support telco application development and delivery and customer experience management. She is currently tracking the impact of SDN and NFV on telecom organizations and has a major interest in the new architectures and management systems needed for operating SDN and NFV-based networks.

Caroline has more than 25 years' experience researching and writing about the information and communications technology industry for global analyst firms and publications, and has led major research projects for communications service providers, vendors, financial institutions and government bodies. She is an authority on the global wholesale telecom industry, and her work synthesizes a broad understanding of technology innovation with a deep knowledge of telecom market dynamics.

She is based in the U.K..

Stefan Vallin, Principal Engineer, Cisco
Dr. Vallin contributes more than 20 years of network and service management experience to Tail-f, a Cisco company specializing in OSS and NMS systems, and network management standards. He has presented at a wide variety of international network engineering and management conferences. Before Tail-f, he worked as an OSS solutions architect at DataDuctus. Dr. Vallin also served as a network management specialist at Ericsson and a research engineer at the University of Linköping.

Sanjeev Mervana is responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of products and solutions for Cisco Service Provider Architectures around SDN/NFV, cloud, software, mobility and video for Cisco's global service provider customers. He has been with Cisco for more than 18 years and has authored various publications and blogs as well as a Cisco Press Book, Design Principles of DSL Based Access Solutions. With more than 30 years of experience in networking, software and solutions, Sanjeev has held prominent roles leading innovative architectures and solutions around software, routing, SDN, NFV, Broadband Aggregation, IPTV Carrier Ethernet and Mobile IP RAN business within Cisco and the industry.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling. Engelbert will also reveal new, original Ovum research on the topics of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, security and augmented reality, as well as discuss what each of those technologies might mean for women in our field.
