Kumar Mehta, Founder & CEO, Versa

Shawn Hakl, VP, Networking and Managed Services, Verizon

As service providers embrace NFV and what it can enable for new managed services, they look for a strong business case in the near-term and a clear path to the future. Key to both of those is a way for virtualization to enable value-added services.

This webinar will focus on what service providers have done to-date with NFV for WAN and branch managed services; what the spectrum of services will be for the full range of branch options, thin to fat; and how solutions such as vCPE and managed SD-WANs can be leveraged to create more agile and value-added managed services.

It will feature Shawn Hakl, vice president at Verizon, and Kumar Mehta, founder of Versa Networks and formerly of Juniper Networks, and will be moderated by Carol Wilson, editor-at-large for Light Reading.

Carol Wilson, Editor-at-Large, Light Reading
After a quarter of a century covering telecom, what Carol doesn't know about the industry can't even be Googled. Carol's CV, which is available as a partwork, includes spells at Telephony, Interactive Week and The Net Economy. She was also the founder of a telecom news website, BroadbandEdge. Prior to covering telecom, she covered higher education, business, politics, the arts and sports for publications in North Carolina and Wisconsin. [Ed note: Is there such as thing as the arts in Wisconsin, technically speaking?]

Now working for Light Reading from her home aviary with faithful dog Sunny as her executive assistant and personal trainer, Carol welcomes feedback from her readers, particularly if they shout, "Go Heels!" in her face at any given trade show.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling. Engelbert will also reveal new, original Ovum research on the topics of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, security and augmented reality, as well as discuss what each of those technologies might mean for women in our field. As always, we'll also leave plenty of time to answer all your questions live on the air and chat board.
