Overview: A major element of next-gen Sonet/SDH is the deployment of Ethernet services. New technologies can help carriers do more for less in terms of deploying infrastructure to furnish services. And the data path is well supported by new techniques such as GFP and LCAS. Apart from the Ethernet transport mechanism used, though, a majot dilemma for service providers is how Ethernet services can be managed in the context of a Sonet/SDH and WDM network.
A key attraction of Ethernet services for both enterprise and service provider is the potential for reduced opex. There are several factors that contribute to this saving, such as the ability to change bandwidth without a truck roll. However, the management of these services needs to fit in with the carrier’s current data services (Frame Relay and ATM) and transport media (Sonet/SDH and WDM) to some extent.
This Webinar will address the latest developments in this market segment. This live event will provide a detailed overview of the current technologies that are being used to manage the new carrier-operated Ethernet services – and look ahead to new trends emerging in the network. The Webinar will deliver information about:
•Review of Ethernet-over-Sonet/SDH transport schemes
•Using Ethernet operational practice to reduce carrier opex
•Carrier management verses enterprise management
•The interaction of management requirements and transport technology
•Carrier demarcation
•Impact of Ethernet-over-MPLS on network management
•Overview of vendors in this space and what they offer
