Vodafone Goes Widget
AMSTERDAM -- Vodafone Netherlands announces the start of a new competition for widget developers; MobileWidgetCamp, which will take place in Amsterdam on May, 2 2009. Participants of the competition can win a trip to leading widget company Opera in Norway, a number of N97 handsets and a promotion on the Vodafone Netherlands website and mobile portal for the best mobile widget.
Anyone who is able to build and deliver a mobile widget and is over 18 years of age can sign up on the MobileWidgetCamp website until May 25, 2009. Widgets are essentially a single function application designed to offer a highly personalised mobile web experience for users. An example of a widget is a newsfeed reader or a travel planner.
Patrick Leenheers, Head of Vodafone Internet Services, Vodafone Netherlands: "Mobilizing the internet is an important strategic cornerstone at Vodafone. MobileWidgetCamp offers technical -web and mobile- developers and start-ups an opportunity to further develop them selves and to add a contribution to mobilizing the internet. We are very much looking forward to the mobile widgets that will be submitted between now and May 25, 2009."
