CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:VTSS) today introduced the VSC8185 16:1 multiplexer and VSC8184 1:16 demultiplexer; a feature rich chipset that operates from 11.5Gb/s to 12.5Gb/s to support high-gain Forward Error Correction (FEC) operations. The VSC8184 and VSC8185 enable telecommunication equipment providers to serialize and de-serialize high-gain FEC data streams for ultra-long haul and long haul DWDM applications. This chipset is the first 12.5Gb/s mux and demux solution to integrate clock recovery and multiplication functions. These devices operate over a continuous tuning range from 11.5Gb/s to 12.5Gb/s using a single +3.3V power supply and dissipate less than 3.5W of power for the total chipset.

"This chipset enables application of various techniques in the rapidly developing area of advanced forward error correction and RZ modulation for long-haul reaches and beyond," stated Lee Walter, Vitesse's product marketing manager. "This chipset is the lowest power high-gain FEC chipset available on the market today."
