Finally, an MVNO deal by a major MSO. This week Quebec cable operator Videotron inked a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) deal with Rogers Wireless, the sister company of Canada's largest cable company, Rogers Cable. Through the deal, Videotron will offer a 'quadruple play' of television, broadband Internet, cable telephone and Videotron-branded mobile wireless services. Videotron plans to launch its mobile wireless offering in the first half of 2006. Earlier this month, Rogers and its arch-rival Bell Canada proved just how neighborly Canadians can be. The companies notched an agreement to jointly build and manage a Canada-wide wireless broadband network. Through the deal, Rogers and Bell will pool their wireless broadband spectrum holdings into a joint venture, called Inukshuk Internet Inc. Inukshuk will build and operate the network, which is expected to reach more than two-thirds of Canadians in less than three years. Once built, Bell and Rogers will each have the right to use 50% of the network's total transmission capacity. Sales, marketing, end-user customer care and billing functions will be provided directly by Rogers and Bell to their respective customers.
