Alcatel-Lucent's cloud-based DVR technology enables personal online recording and multiple TV features.

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Telefónica have enabled a new cloud-based TV feature for Telefónica’s pay TV service, Movistar TV.

Using Alcatel-Lucent’s award-winning Cloud DVR solution, Movistar subscribers now have access to up to 350 hours of personal online recording through their set-top boxes with a service that allows simultaneous use of all channels. An innovative ‘mosaic’ TV feature for major sporting events also allows customers to select between six different streams of the live action.

  • Telefónica was among the first service providers in Spain to launch a pay TV offering in 2001 and now reaches nearly one million subscribers.

    • Alcatel-Lucent is providing its Cloud DVR solution, enabling new pay TV features and multi-screen online recordings which give Telefónica a clearly differentiated offer in the Spanish marketplace. These features include:
      -- Personal online recording, launched commercially in February 2014, provides each Movistar customer with unlimited simultaneous channel recording and up to 350 hours of network DVR storage.
      -- Mosaic, launched in March 2014, is an interactive service for major sporting events which uses Alcatel-Lucent’s 5910 Video Services Appliance to enable customers to switch instantly between six different streams of the live action.

    • Alcatel-Lucent is also supporting Telefónica in its fiber-to-the-home deployments as part of the Movistar Fusión service.
