Light Reading Mobile – Telecom News, Analysis, Events, and Research

3:00 PM -- OFC/NFOEC came out big last week, with a reported 12,000 attendees (up from 11,100 last year) and 560 show floor participants.

Equipment vendors exhibited in bigger numbers than before, although they didn't have many service provider attendees to talk to. Word has it The Optical Society (OSA) is working on improving that in 2013.

It was also a last hurrah for Los Angeles, as the show is moving back to Anaheim, Calif., next year. People groaned two years ago when the L.A. venue was announced, remembering the dingy downtown from OFC's 2004 visit there, but the L.A. Live zone of glitzy chain restaurants helped smooth over those differences, I think.

What really matters is whether the show sticks to its plan of coming to San Francisco in 2014. Two years ago, we published data establishing San Francisco as the most well optimized OFC/NFOEC venue of the last 10 years or more. (See OFC/NFOEC Bids Goodbye to San Diego.)
