9:10 AM -- Chinese vendors Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and ZTE Corp. are coming under further fire in North America with the launch of an investigation into alleged patent infringements.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has decided to investigate the integration of certain imaging technology in mobile phones, tablets and other portable devices imported into the country following a complaint by FlashPoint Technology Inc.

Huawei and ZTE are cited as "respondents" in the case, along with Taiwan's High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) and Korean vendor Pantech Co. Ltd.

The USITC will now determine whether there is a violation of any intellectual property rights following an "evidentiary hearing" by an administrative law judge.

The investigation adds to the growing list of issues that the Chinese duo are having to deal with in the U.S., where there is growing suspicion about the deployment of any technology sourced from China. (See More Chinese Whispers.)
