Welcome to the third lecture in the GLOBALCOMM™ 2006 Master Class Series presented by Light Reading and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) . The Master Class Series comprises ten lectures leading up to the exciting GLOBALCOMM 2006 event, June 4-8 in Chicago.

This Lecture, Demystifying the Complexities Inherent in IP Convergence, presented by Buddhadeb (“Bud”) Basu, Vice President, Product Management, at Global Crossing, explains how convergence can be made easy.

In a captivating presentation, Mr. Basu relayed how convergence becomes more straightforward when viewed as an evolutionary process, made up of several more manageable projects, as opposed to a single, large-scale program. For example, if you are currently using an ATM network to transport your data applications between locations, migrating to IP VPN becomes a relatively easy cost to justify. And IP VPN is the network foundation for a converged services environment. Therefore, once this step is completed, you’re on your way. The order in which you add other IP applications or consider various managed service options is dependent on your unique company profile and individual business needs.

Basu also revealed how the key to demystifying convergence is working with a carrier that will (a) help you develop a phased network migration approach that is tailored to your unique business needs; and (b) ensure your technology, security, and support parameters are met within each phase of your migration.

GLOBALCOMM is the Next-Generation Communications Marketplace and Summit, produced by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) as their annual ICT industry event.
