3:30 PM -- Now there's another telecommunications title to which the U.S. can lay claim: This country generates more spam than any other nation on Earth.

The researchers at Sophos, an antivirus software company, say they've scanned all spam messages received at its global network throughout 2004 month and they've found that the U.S. is "responsible for exporting 42.11 percent of all spam."

China, South Korea, Canada, and France made the list as well. The complete list of the dozen worst spamming countries is here.

The researchers could not immediately confirm my speculation that most of the world's exported spam finds its way back to [email protected].
